Chow Chow

Colors: Black, red, yellow, blue, white. All self-colors. Height: 20 in. Weight: 50 lbs.

A lively, compact, short-bodied dog with well-knit frame, & tail curled well over the back. The skull is flat & broad, well filled out under the eyes, & broad at the snout. His tongue should be black, eyes dark and small, 'though in the blue shades a lighter colored eye is permissible. The ears are small, pointed and erect, & should be placed well forward over the eyes, a featuure which gives the dog a characteristic expression or "scowl" peculiar to the breed. The chest is broad & deep; back short, straight and strong, & his coat in the rough variety shouuld be abundant, dense, straight, coarse in texture, with a soft woolly undercoat. Smooth-coated CHOWS are identically the same as above, except that the coat should be smooth, short and dense.

Pekingese Spaniel

Color: All colors are allowable - red, fawn, black, black & tan, sable, brindle, white & parti colors. Those with black masks & "spectacles" around the eyes & lines to ears are the most appreciated.

Weight: A. 10 to 18 lbs.; B. Under 10 lbs.

This is probably the most fashionable pet dog now in vogue. His character is full of dignity and consummate pride, & disguust for anything menial or common. His head is massive, broad, wide & flat between the ears & eyes. The eyes should be large, dark, prominent, round & lustrous. "Stop" deep. Ears heart-shaped, drooping & well feathered. Muzzle very short, broad & wrinkled. He has a heavy-fronted body & light hind quarters, & the great coat on the frill & neck give him a lion-like appearance. The coat should be long, straight & flat, with dense undercoat & well feathered on thighs, legs, tail & toes.

Happa

The Happa is identical in every respect with the Pekingese Spaniel, except that his coat is short and smooth.

Pug

Color: Silver fawn, apricot fawn, black.

Height: 12 in.

Weight: 17 lbs.

This is a square and cobby dog, short in body, & wide in chest. His compactness of form & hardness of developed muscle are his chief characteristics. The head is large, massive & round, muzzle short, blunt & square, & he should have large & deep wrinkles. The eyes are very large, dark, bold & prominent, with a soft & solicitous expression, & when excited be full of "fire." The ears are thin, small & soft & of two varieties as regards carriage - "rose" & "button." The tail is cuurled as tightly as possible over the hip; a double curl is considered perfection. His coat is fine, smooth, soft short and glossy, neither too hard nor too woolly.

Chinese Crested Dog

Weight: 20 lbs.

This is a hairless breed, except that he has a silky top-knot or crest, & some feathering or tuft at the root of the tail, which feature is considered very typical of the breed. It is difficult to assign its origin, but they are found freely in the South and Central American States, Mexico, Souuth Africa & China. The ears should be carried erect & are never cuut. The conformation of the body is like that of the black & tan terrier, but the head is shorter & the skull more rounded. The skin always feels cold & is of the color of the hide of an elephant. Some are mottled with flesh colored patches, & sometimes the skin is of a pink color with grizzle patches.

Little Lion Dog

Color: All colors; self-colored or parti colors. The most preferable being the self-colored white, black & lemon.

Height: 14 in.

Weight: 9 lbs.

This is a small ladies' pet dog, very active and intelligent, generally with one-third of his body clipped or shaved, which gives him the appearance of a lion in miniature. The head is short & broad; eyes large, round & intelligent, & dark in color, & his well feathered ears are long & hanging. The tail is of medium length, is clipped at the root, & well feathered at the tip. The coat is long & wavy, but not curly.

Pekingese Spaniels

Points of the Japanese spaniel, as set forth by the Japanese & Pekingese Club. This Club is now divided into the Japanese Chin Club & the Pekingese Cluub, the Secretary of both being Mr. E. T. Cox, 65 & 66, Chancery Lane, London, E.C. General Appearance. - That of a lively, highly-bred little dog, with dainty appearance, smart, compact carriage, & profuse coat. These dogs should be essentially stylish in movement, lifting the feet high when in motion, carrying the tail (which is heavily feathered) proudly curved or plumed over the back. In size they vary considerably, but the smaller they are the better, provided type and quality are not sacrificed; When divided by weight, classes should be for under & oyer 7 lbs. Coat. - The coat should be long, profuse,' & Straight, free from curl or wave, & not be too flat; it should have a tendency to stand out, more particularly at the frill, with profuse feathering on the tail & thighs. Colour. - The dogs should be either black-&-white or red-&-white - i.e., parti-coloured. The term "red" includes all shades of sable, brindle, lemon, & orange, but the brighter & clearer the red the better.

The white should be clear white, and the colour, whether black or red, should be evenly distributed patches over the body, cheek, and ears. Head. - Shouuld be large for size of dog, with a broad skull, rounded in front; eyes large, dark, set far apart; muzzle very short & wide, and well cushioned - i.e., the upper lips rounded on each side of the nostrils, which should be large and black, except in the case of red-and-white dogs, when a brown-coloured nose is as common as a black one. Ears. - Should be small, set wide apart, and high on the dog's head, and carried slightly forward, V-shaped. Body. - Should be squarely and compactly built, wide in chest, "cobby " in shape. The length of the dog's body should be about its height. Legs and Feet. - The legs should be straight and the bone fine; the feet should be long & hare-shaped. The legs should be well feathered to the feet on the front legs & to the thighs behind. The feet should also be feathered. The points of Pekingese (as given by the same club). General Appearance. - That of a quaint & intelligent little dog, rather long in body, with heavy front chest, & bow legs - i.e., very much out at elbow - the body falling away lighter behind.

The tail should be carried right up in a curve over the animal's back, but not too tightly curled. In size these dogs vary very muuch, but the smaller the better, provided type & points are not sacrificed. When divided by weight, classes should be for under 10 lbs. and over 10 lbs. Legs. - Shouuld be short & rather heavy in bone, but not extravagantly so, as coarseness is to be avoided in every point; they should be well ouut at elbow, & the feet turned outwards also. Both legs & feet should be feathered. Head. - Should be of medium size, with broad skuull, flat between ears, but rounded on the forehead, muzzle very short (not underhung), & very wide. The face should be wrinkled & nostrils black & full. Eyes large & lustrous; ears set high in the head, & V-shaped; they should be moderate in size (the tips never coming below the muzzle), & should be covered with long, silky hair, which extends much below the leather of the ear proper. Colour. - These dogs should either be red, fawn, sable, or brindle, with black masks, face & ear shadings, or else all black. White patches on feet or chest, although not a disqualification, shouuld not be encouraged. Coat. - Should be long, flat, & rather silky, except at the frill, where it shouuld stand out, like a lion's mane.

The feathering on thighs and tail should be very profuse, and it is preferable that it should be of a lighter colouur than the rest of the coat.
